Beyond the Wall of Sleep 10-04-09

Happy October everybody! Time for jack-o-lanterns, spiderwebs, dead leaves and spooooky sounds. Well, at least a tad spookier than usual. This week's episode is only an hour, but expect a return to the two-hour format for the rest of the month. Possibly with some real surprises.

Pas De Printemps Pour Marnie is a lush electropop duo from France. They have recently released a number of MBV covers, some of which are available for preview on their website.

Their video for "Soon" is heartbreakingly beautiful and haunting, really providing a refresh to the power of the original:

Athens band Japancakes have also released an instrumental cover of the entire Loveless album. I've used tracks from it for audio zippers during station breaks on the show. While not actually a video, you can listen to their cover of "Only Shallow" here:

Japancakes' MySpace (linked above) also has a cover of The Cocteau Twins' "Heaven or Las Vegas".
